Mexico fishing

7/27

With temperatures up bottom fishing hasn't been so great. We set out with a plan of trolling for dorado and marlin with a hopes of maybe some tuna as well. Making out way out past Catalan we began trolling south and had our first strike. It was a good size dorado that put up a good fight. That need up being our only bite for some time. Being patient and continuing to troll some areas that looked to have good potential finally paid off. A striped marlin came checking out our MagBay lures and before tossing a live bait out it struck our lure hard and ran with it. The fight was on two customers shared the battle and we got it to the boat. Patience is key on days like this.

Today we left Puerto Escondido shortly after leaving the marina we spotted a mother and baby fin whale. We continued north in search of dorado we found a weed line that looked promising. We spotted some small dorado on the first patties then a large dorado on a bigger piece of kelp. We worked that one dorado then a few more appeared. We were unable to get a quick bite and our clients only having booked a half day wanted to go bottom fish. We continued north and caught some dinner. In the afternoon part of the crew went out for some fishing with the family, we already knew what was north so wanted to checkout south with a busy schedule ahead. We went south of Catalan where the water was green but had warmed back up to 82°, the weather was calm all day with a slight breeze. A good amount of striped marlin were seen.  Large sargasso patties floating produced 3 dorado for us. While heading back in we spotted some porpoise and trolled the cedar plugs, as luck would have it the tuna were right there with them we landed a total of 10 yellowfin. Made for a great afternoon for some fishing in Loreto with the kids!

We had an epic day being on the water in Loreto. We left out of Puerto Escondido Marina and ventured out into the Sea of Cortez. Passing two of the Islands of Loreto Isla Monserrate and Isla Santa Catalan we had an encounter with a humpback whale, so was great to have the chance do some whale watching on our way to do some offshore fishing. As we were trolling around we spotted some marlin that we casted some baits to but they just weren't hungry enough at that time. No too long after we had a dorado strike one of our jigs and we were able to land that fish. As we continued trolling through the waters of Loreto our Captain spotted birds in the distance so we made our way towards them and sure enough we found ourselves in a school of yellowfin tuna. A great time was had by all landing these powerful fish. After the bite turned off we made our way back to the marina but not before we had many dolphins putting on a show for us which was a perfect way to end an amazing day.
