yellowtail

9/21

It was a stormy week in Loreto with high winds. We got out Friday 9/21 and started our trip out checking on the bottom fishing, it was a slow bite and a strong current. Caught a decent pargo then decided to move offshore. Heading offshore the water was still a little rough from the previous storm. We got outside Catalan and began trolling, finding porpoise and birds but unfortunately no tuna with with. Spotted a striped marlin that went under as we approached and were unable to get a bite. Continuing to troll we ending up landing a beautiful sailfish that we released. Overall it was a pretty slow day, which was also confirmed with reports from "Bad Company" and "Sea Esta" with them reporting with catching a shark, two yellowtail, and a grouper. Lots of good sign offshore just wasn't our day. Water temps 86-88, good water color, semi rough water.

7/15/18

Today weather conditions were ideal and the water was good. The bite was a little challenging, but we were able to get a good yellowtail, and some decent snapper and grouper. Just goes to show you how everyday on the water is different. Some days the fishing is incredible and the next day could be the complete opposite. Today was an in between day on catching but still a bunch of fun. You're not gonna be able to catch them sitting in the hotel so its always worth getting out on the water to have your shot at an incredible day!

7/13/18

This Friday the 13th will be one thats talked about for awhile. Today we had some first timers out on the boat with us, obviously we always want to deliver but with this being some of their first times we wanted them to have that hunger to want to do this many more times in the future. The weather and water was absolutely perfect today it was very calm and we were able to spot a few marlin we could cut to but didn't succeed. However we did get lucky on some very good yellowtail and cabrilla. After the bottom bite slowed down we suggested we should troll for marlin and dorado so thats what we did. Not long after we started trolling we had a striped marlin  coming in to check out our lures. We quickly got a live bait in the water and had the marlin very interested after a few minutes of enticing the marlin with the live bait it finally struck. We hooked up to this marlin which put on a good fight, we landed the striped marlin got a few quick pictures then safely released it. As we were heading in for the day we got a call on the radio from Capt. Robert Ross advising us that tuna were spotted further south of our location. We were unable to make it down their but angler Frank Kavanaugh who was fishing with Ross was lucky enough to land a monster yellowfin tuna. But our day was not completely over, as we were heading into Puerto Escondido just outside of Danzante we spotted several Orcas (killer whales) They ended up putting a great show for us. We definitely succeeded at delivering for these first timers but may have set the bar a little high for their next venture haha.

7/11/18

We got out to our fishing spot for the day a little later than usual after spending some time trying to get bait. After being persistent we got our bait and got the lines in the water. Yellowtail were biting good today but getting them out of the rocks was the challenge. Sticking with it we piled a few yellowtail and some good sized cargo (snapper) on board. At one point we had a very large pargo coming up after a yellowtail we had hooked up, it was quite a site to see. Overall the bite was solid today in Loreto.

7/9/18

Today we headed out with a group of Dodger fans from Los Angeles. The skies were overcast with a slight drizzle here and there. We encountered a large pod of dolphins right away as we headed out into the Sea of Cortez. The bite started off well then died off shortly after. We managed to get a solid combination of yellowtail, grouper, and snapper on the boat. Was a good day for some family fun!

6/28/18

With the weather report not looking so great for the Loreto waters we suggested to our clients that it would probably be better to cancel yesterday and fish early today before an afternoon wind was supposed to arrive. They trusted our judgement and they were glad they did. We left Puerto Escondido made a quick stop to make some bait then headed out. Within minutes of arriving to our spot we were hooked up to a yellowtail. The bite was on!! We hooked up to several good sized yellowtail, lost a few but managed to put 6 on board. The yellows turned off for a bit but we landed a large cabrilla which put up a great fight, along with a few more cabrilla and a pargo. With the afternoon winds approaching and several great fish on the boat we all decided it was a good time to call an end to four great days of fishing together. Some full coolers will be headed home with these GREAT customers!

6/24/18

After coming off two very tough days of fishing we had some luck. Yesterday the wind was blowing from the south strong enough to throw a wrench into our planned destinations. We fished a few different spots but only pulled a few small fish. Today the wind calmed down some giving us a chance to fish wherever we wanted to. Water temps are still a little all over the place, So we decided to bottom fish. Glad that choice was made because we landed some very solid fish. A monster pargo, almacojack, yellowtail, quite a few cabrilla and some more pargo. It was a great first day for this family as they will be fishing with us a few days while the visit Loreto.

6/2/18

Today we were back on the waters of Loreto for day 2 with the same group. Water temperatures are slowly climbing, today the Sea of Cortez was knocking on the door of 80ºF. We were unable spot any dorado but we did get into a good amount of grouper (cabrilla), a few snapper (pargo), enough triggerfish for some ceviche for tonights appetizer, more importantly found some yellowtail which have been harder to lock in on this season. Overall it was a good day of fishing with tight lines most of the day.

6/1/18

To start off the month of June in Loreto we headed out for a day of offshore fishing. The weather was slightly windy and water temps are still slowly rising. We spotted several good size kelp patties unfortunately today there were no dorado home. We continued our way out further into the Sea of Cortez to some quality spots. We ended up getting into several grouper (cabrilla), some decent snappers (pargo) and some large triggerfish. We are expecting that any day the dorado will becoming in larger numbers to these spots.

The fishing in Loreto has been incredible lately. Check out these catches.

7/24/17

Another great day of fishing in Loreto Baja Mexico.

6/27/17

Another awesome day fishing in Loreto today! We left out of Puerto Escondido around 7am and traveled South around Isla Catalan. We were fishing a high spot around the island and found a lot of yellowtail, grouper, and snapper. The family we were with had never been fishing in Loreto before so needless to say they were very pleased with all the fish we caught. The fishing around the Loreto area lately has been very consistent and holding a lot of fish. The weather was perfect today with almost no wind and 80 degree temperatures. All of the fishing we did today was bottom fishing. We ended up with limits on out fish by around noon and headed back to Loreto to enjoy the rest of the day by the pool. If you are interested in fishing in Loreto please give Outpost Charters a call to book your trip today.

6/27/17

Today was a great day fishing in Loreto. Outpost Charters took a family fishing offshore. We fished the Islands of Loreto around Isla Catalan. The weather was very nice with just a slight breeze. This family had a great time catching fish all day long! We were fishing on a high spot with mackerel on the bottom. We caught limits on yellowtail, snapper, and cabrilla. The kids even got to catch a lot of fish themselves. We had a great time taking this fmaily fishing and hope the visit us in Loreto again soon.

6/18/17

The fishing in Loreto has been on fire this month!! We had another day with limits on yellowtail, grouper, and snapper. It was all smiles today fishing out of Loreto. The offshore fishing for bottom fish has been very consistent. Once again we had awesome weather, customers and most importantly we caught a lot of fish. We left early this morning out of the Loreto marina and headed South to fish around Isla Coronado. By around 1pm we had limits on everything and were headed back to the marina to celebrate.

6/16/17

Today was another great day of fishing out of Loreto, Baja Mexico. We caught a ton of fish and had a blast fishing the Sea of Cortez. We had a great group of guys visiting Loreto from Southern California. They chartered our 40; Luhrs named Cat N' Reel and we left Puerto Escondido around 7am. We loaded up the boat with the customers and crew and headed about 30 miles offshore to fish the South part of the islands of Loreto. From the second we arrived to the high spot we usually fish we were hooking up. The weather was perfect all day and the water was very blue. We were fishing live bait on the bottom and ended up having the best day out of any boat fishing out of Loreto. Our total fish count was 15 yellowtail, 5 cabrilla, 2 pargo, and 1 amberjack. The customers were happy and so was the crew. We could not have asked for a better day fishing out of Loreto.

6/13/17

Today was an amazing day fishing on the Sea of Cortez. We had a great group of people with us including local Loreto legend Augie as well as many other locals and friends. The group chartered us to fish the outer islands of Loreto. We spent most of the day fishing a high spot we frequent just south of Catalina Island. Today was mostly bottom fishing with live bait at around 120 ft. A lot of the time when fishing in Loreto you can get some nice sized yellowtail fishing the bottom. Total fish count for todays trip was 10 yellowtail, 1 amberjack, 2 cabrilla (seabass) and 3 pargo (snapper). Overall you could not have asked for a better day fishing on the Sea of Cortez out of Loreto.
